Coccidiosis question?

I know the parents can pass immunity to the chicks but that immunity does not last.I'm not sure of the answer of passing on to the chicks. once chicks are treated they are not carriers because cocci is a protozoan. all birds carry cocci to some extent its when the balance gets out of control that they become ill. cocci is in the ground and its everywhere. there are 9 strains of cocci. if introduced gradually they develop an immunity to it. all birds have a bit of the cocci protozoa. they usually develop an immunity . but if its introduced too fast without time to develop immunity they become ill. some bring soil into the brooder so the chicks can develop a form of immunity to the cocci in there soil. hope this helps a bit..perhaps someone else knows the answer of passing the protozoa to the chicks. hope this helps some.

Thanks,

I think I figured out why they got sick. I cleaned out from under the pens and I think I stirred up all the disease that is in the poop under the pens. That's the only thing I can think of. They were not sick before the clean up and then they were sick afterwards. What do you think? Think that is what happened? The ones that are left all look fine now. I lost 4 one night and 2 more two other nights, for a total of six. Used Corid and duramycin for 5 days and the rest of them seem to be ok now.
