Hi my name is Saaniya & I'm from new Delhi India I just join byc earlier Im a follower of byc articles .

Today I join just for my lil baby tootoo & teetee my two Indian pullets small.breed broiler hoping one looks like rooster & 2nd is female girl ..

They are 16 weeks old ( 2months) they are doing fine and well I give them hard boiled egg in morning , corns , rice , boiled chickpeas & many more things they are like gud .. In good appetite I mean to say ..

But from past 5-6 days they seems no interests in eggs or anything they seems very active but less appetite They are crowing loud (very sweet) I give them some crack corn that's their fav earlier but now this become no interest ..I call a local poultry vet (hopefully I found one) in. My area nd tell this no.appetite symptoms my vet says to stop egg as its only raw proteins & its affecting liver and he prescribed "Himalaya Liv 52" syrup . I give them but yellow loose poop not clear ( I'm worried ) so I search down everything everywhere info says about cocci and I'm confirm but my girl had no other symptoms except loss of appetite ..

That evening (midnight) I start noticing some red looking poo (only my girl had) reddish orange & in morning clear lil blood start appear she still active but weak she lost half pound weight.. Her comb is rosy eyes nd nose clear & I'm 200% confirmed that she had cocci .I was so scared so afraid I can't even sleep I love them.so much so much I search all over internet in morning I syringe feed her some biscuits with water and some garlic water.

As I'm in India corid 9.6% is not avail here so I call vet and tell him.she having blood in stool and he confirmed its an infection and he prescribed me few medicine for cocci and says pick.up anyone which has sulfa
Rx
First is ESB3
2nd Trappin
3rd is Zydus Cadilla Biotrim Oral or Powder

Luckily I got :

Zydus Biotrim That's Sulfadiazipine 200mg & Trimethoripne 40mg oral ..& Also I brought a bottle of essential vitamin & amino.acids drops (with DHA & Argenine)
Still my girl has blood strains in stool my roo did not has any blood or symptoms.. Both are very active nd playing , jumping ..but no appetite still

I started giving this oral 1ml in 2ltr water as per suggested from afternoon. giving them in every hr 2ml (to both ) after 4-5 dosage my girl cleared blood strains In her poo started picking food & corn plus some plain.yoghurt but after some hours my Roo has blood strains in his poo dono how ? He (both)did not showing any symptoms ..

Now I'm continue giving them medicated water blood seems disappeare sometimes sometimes appears ...

Anyone pls tell how much time cocci takes? When blood seems disappeared completely & when their appetite gets normal?? When I repeat treatment again Nd when I can.give them.vitamins drops ( earlier I watch my birds eating each other poo & dry wall and I think whaet cause them.Coccidiosis) otherwise I change their litter in every half hr I make sure that there's no wetness

Thank you so much..

Your vet should tell you how long to treat with those particular meds.

Sulfa drugs typically cure in 5 to 7 days as they are stronger and more toxic to the animal. But I am quoting from Sulmet and Sulphadimethoxine I get here in the US.

So again, your vet should tell you how long to treat.

It is important to thoroughly clean their cage, litter, and run area, as coccidia are protozoa that live in the soil. They are picked up by the bird, reproduce in the gut lining, then are shed in little hard case eggs called oocysts in the poo to start the whole cycle again.

So it is important to clean up their area so that you aren't re-infecting the birds.

After that, it is following the prescribed treatment by the vet.

I would also recommend considering getting some chicken feed rather than simply feeding various corn and foods to be certain they have a balanced diet. Corn is not a good diet item for chickens as it has little nutritional value and far too much starch. It can actually offset the PH in the gut causing an imbalance which will encourage opportunistic overgrowth from things like coccidia.

Living in India, you will be battling the warm, humid weather that will make for natural breeding grounds for parasites. Keeping a healthy gut is very important for your birds then.

For that, a chicken balanced diet using a formulated feed or a reliable formula for self made feed, probiotics (such as yogurt) and apple cider vinegar (raw, with mother, in plastic containers), will go a long way for gut health and strong immune systems.

Hopefully someone from Europe or India will be able to comment directly on the particular meds you are using, but again, your vet should tell you treatment time.

Wishing your loved birds a speedy recovery.

And :welcome

Thank you so much dear
Yes I'm going to search for feed I tried before but here medicated starters , growers & pallets are not avail like us & other countries ..here people who get chickens for their farms and as pets they feed them grains like mostly very popularly "Pearl Millet" with "Maize Or Corn" this they said ideal for birds ..but I tried my best to provide nutrients so I started giving them hard boiled eggs in their growing time till they are fully feathered now ..

I've them in my home so they don't have run field they run inside my balcony and hall but I notice their loss of appetite after eating some wet dry wall ( I think there are some bacteria)
Earlier before having blood in her stool she ate raw meat ( my stupid friend feed her) after that I see blood my mother told me that raw meat cause her infection more serious ..

Yeah!! My vet said ( he's a poultry vet just for chickens ) for 5-7 days .

I've read on some websites that sulfa drugs has history to treat cocci & many other bacterias ..

I were searching corid everywhere but its unluckily unavailable in my.country ..
But hoping sulfa can cure it many thanks for reply

Sulfa is a very good cure for both coccidiosis and bacterial infections.

I can't easily get sulfa type of drugs anymore in the US, so am stuck with Corid which only addresses coccidiosis.

It is nice to have the broader med in some instances...and the sulfa should do the trick nicely. Be sure to change the water daily as it needs to be freshly made to be effective.

Good luck with your pets.

They are so stubborn I fill their water dish but they smell it and run away so I give them by dropper in every hour
