I have 5 silkie chicks that I got from a local breeder in an outdoor coop right now. We have had incessant rain for 3 days, and humid when it isn't raining. Today, I found two spots of bloody poop, and so I'm suspecting that they have cocci. What should I get to treat them?

A cattle medicine called Corid (amprollium) or Ampromed is the treatment, and comes in liquid or powder. Dosage is 2 tsp of liquid (or 1.5 tsp of powder) per gallon of water, and treat for 5-7 days. The chicks have to drink it to be effective. After finishing the treatment, give vitamins and a probiotic for several days to promote gut bacteria, and to replace vitamins lost from the bowel damage. Try to keep the litter dry, and keep waterers and feeders up high enough to prevent them from getting droppings into them. Treat all your birds at the same time. http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2012/12/coccidiosis-what-backyard-chicken.html
