I picked up some cochin chicks today (hopefully 2 pullets, 1 roo) I already have 2 cochin pullets that I think came from the same hatching. I have a question about cochin anatomy.

When I brought the 3 home, I notice what I thought looked like a pingpong ball size tumor on the chicks chest. (they are about 3 weeks old) I was concerned until I checked out the other 2 and they had the same. So I thought maybe this is part of the cochin anatomy.

could someone please explain this to me? I didn't notice this on my other breeds....nor on the 2 I already had.

Thanks,
Mendy

This is just normal chicken anatomy. Your cochins have full 'crops' which are the first stage of the digestive system- it's a thin skinned food bag, essentially! From there, the food empties into another part, and another- it will fill and empty throughout the day, and they ought to be full at night, and empty in the morning.

Al my cochins have "extra fluffy" feathers on their chest also. I agree that when they have full crops it's even more noticable. Sounds normal.
