Please help, my little bantam mottled cochin attacks my lavender orpington. She has been doing it ever since the orpington went broody. Every time I remove the orpington from the nesting box the bantam cochin runs up and starts pecking her, jumping on her, and trying to scratch her with her feet. She just started doing this a few days ago when the orpington went broody. We have put her in a cage for now, but I am worried she will start up at it again.
We do have two buff orpingtons that we bought about 5 weeks ago, and they are about 13 weeks old. When we got them they were smaller than the bantam cochin, and she seemed happy to finally be bigger than somebody. They are now much bigger than her, and she pecks at them too. Or, at least, she used to peck at them. Now her only focus is waiting until I lift the lavender orpington out of the box so that she can attack.
Is she under stress because of the new buff orps? Will keeping her in a cage for a few days solve the problem? I let her out with all my chickens today and she went crazy and started pecking at the lavender orpington. The weird thing is, she is still laying fine. She is much more people friendly than chicken friendly it seems.
