cochin chick with "plug" in rear

hi, i have a day old cochin chick that has a little mat of poop on its butt that is preventing it from going to the bathroom. it looks like it trys to but cant and starts panting. what should i do?

Clean it off, gently, ASAP. Use warm water to soften the poop. A blocked vent can kill a bird.

You need to clean the poop off NOW or it will die. Try warm water and a washcloth or a Q-tip with some vaseline. It's called 'pasty butt' (technical name LOL).
