Hi there,

I am new to chicken keeping. I 12 chicks, 2 of them are cochins. I just bought them yesterday! They are so so cute. But I am a little worried about them. I'm pretty sure the man I bought them from said that they are a week old, but they are considerably smaller than the other week old chicks I have (including the silkies) They are also not nearly as active. Is that just their personality? It seems like they are doing a lot of just lying around.
Does anyone have experience with Cochins that can tell me if this is normal.
Thanks!

Not sure how helpful but these chicks were 3 days old. Bantam cochins

hatching is hard work. If you are worried you can give them some nutridrench they sell it at tractor supply. It has electrolytes in it. all of my chicks are on it for the first couple of weeks. it mixes in their water. good luck they are cute

Thanks everyone!
I just found out that the cochin I got are bantams..which explains their small size. And this morning when I went in to feed and water they were a little more lively.
The smallest one seems to really want one of the bigger birds to sit on her. She is constantly looking to get under someones butt and whenever I hold her she burrows into my hands or sweater!
I have to get the camera out today and post some pics they are sooooo cute!

Oh and one more. They are mostly black with some white on their chests (one has more white than the other and also has a light colored beak), is it safe to assume that they will be all black?

Just keep them alive and they'll grow up.
Many big shot breeders think they can cull at an early age for LF breeds. And many times they will see their birds down the road and wonder where that bird came from. And it was one of their culls.
More often then not, the smaller chicks are not going to grow up and be huge. But, doesn't mean that they do not throw the larger gene. Nice looking little tot. Enjoy.
