I have fallen in love with this guy, I have no place at all for him but I am going to keep him anyway. He lives with a Cuckoo Maran now but maybe soon he will have a mate. I was wondering what others think of this little boy. Thanks for your honest input.

Hi Jaynie,

I would love to see a picture of him more upright, that would show the balance of the bird a little better. He looks like he's around 5 to 6 months?? Starting with his color, I like it, nice white base with the random blue splash throughout. His eye color looks correct(reddish bay) he has a nice straight upright comb, with 4 points?? His beak is very yellow which tells me he has nice yellow feet, which is very important in cochins. He's not holding his wings that good in the picture, but he looks to have decent width of feather. He has a nice break between ending of the back and the start of his cushion. He doesn't look to long or short, he also has a nice full cushion. I feel he will grow up to be a very nice male. I like him, would definitely use a guy that in my breeding program. Keep up the good work:)

LOL, how perfect Shari! He is from your eggs so it is all your hard work at hand here. I was going to send a photo to you seperately. I will get a better picture with more upright posture. He is so sweet and he copes very well with Mary the Marans. Poor boy! What I love about his is the distribution of lights and darks. I have only had Splash Sizzles and I would love to have had one with such nice contrast, hum maybe there is a nitch for him after all.

Thank you for the point by point critique, I really do not know much about what to look for so now I can copy and paste you comments to reference for the future.

Thanks a bunch!

Ha ha....that's funny Jaynie, I had no idea.....he's a pretty boy. Was I right about the age?? He will fill in nicely when he ages a bit. I personally like the more heavily splashed birds versus the washed out splashed look. He's a keeper:) I'll be anxious to see him when he matures.....10 months to a year.

Take care!
Shari

He is 5 months almost to the day. I know they fill out lots from here on out. The Black one is still much more impressive in his overall shape. I really did not know what to look for beyound the basketball. LOL
Thanks Msbear, guess what? the Mottled boy figured out what to do with the girls too. I had a surprise little mottled baby sprout curled wings last week. I was so surprised. Junior has been getting down to business and Duster chases him around the pen and such but I guess he took lessons from the youngster cause I have a Frizzled Mottled Cochin chick

Thanks Cyn, I know you like Splash too. I spent lots of time trying to get some Splash from a Black Roo and Splash hen. Shari finally set me straight on that and then the set back so it has taken a while but I have several little Splash Sizzles right now too.
