Cochin Foot Problem - Help

i have a bantam Cochin Roo that is 22 wks old. This morning we noticed his feet are a mess. He is not favoring them and it has not hindered his dancing at all. Please help a Chicken Mama out!!! He is my only feather footed bird and this concerns me.

It is hard to tell from the image. Poultry with feathers on their feet can get scaley mites. Look on youtube. There are a few vids that show you how to soak. Or just google scaley mites in chickens. I hope it helps. Dealing with this with a couple of my feather footed friends.

Sevin dust is a good way to deal with general external parasites. Scaly leg mites require a little different treatment, but I can't see any evidence of him having that from the photo... again, it's kinda hard to tell.

He would have lifted edges of the scales, white crusty stuff around them, and you may see redness and bleeding.

His skin may be red from hormonal fluctuations.

I don't see any mites and nothing on the other birds. I hate to use sevin dust if it is not needed.

My girl had the same thing. Looks like the base of each follicle is infected. I've been doing iodine foot soaks till the vet can get back with me.
What was it??

UPDATE AUGUST 25 2016...
... Just got back from our new avian certified vet who also has pet Cochins!

She says this is normal for this breed and Cochin feet just get worse with age. They take a bit more care. Check them at least monthly (and the other birds too). Keep them clean. This swelling and redness is from irritation from being feather footed. Not a virus or bacterial or mites.

You can do an Epsom salts foot soak twice a day to help relieve the irritation and keep them on soft clean dry bedding.

She also said not to pluck feathers & they will get ingrown feathers but you can just foot soak to get it soft and just use your fingers to gently work them out. She said they come out pretty easy.

By the time I got around to finding the Dr, getting an appointment, I had been doing a daily iodine tea foot soak (10 minutes). Then reduced it to about once a week and switched to Epsom salts. Her swelling and redness are almost completely gone.
