I will check around. Anyone know where I can order just 5 chicks at a time? The places I have looked at want me to order 20 at least.

Oh and an update for today, it seems that since he can't roam the yard without getting picked on, he has taken to one of my bantams nests and is sitting on her eggs. She does not seem to mind she has 4 chicks following her around already. So I will continue to let him for now. DH is working on a coop just for him where no one can mess with him.

there is one hatchery where you can buy just 3 chicks!....let me look it up....

k it is Meyer Hatchery but they dont have Barred cochin...though they do have several other colors....let me look up what you could produce with your barred rooster and the colors they have at meyer...I am sure there are a couple of other hatcheries that you can order as little as 3...but not sure which ones...meyer was just the first one that came up!

According to the chicken calculator http://kippenjungle.nl/kruising.html the barred gene is dominate and all offspring of the barred rooster would be barred no matter the color of the hen. the only time you get some thing other than black barring would be if you crossed your barred rooster with a blue hen...you would get 50% black barred and 50% blue barred

Barred x Black frizzled = 100% barred and 50% frizzled barred...so all chicks would be barred and half would be frizzled
Barred x Mottled - 100% barred
Barred x Red = 100% barred
Barred x Blue = 50% black barred (just like that father) and 50% blue barred ( Pattern is no different it is just blue rather than black)
Barred x Partridge 100% barred
Barred x Silver laced 100% barred
Barred X White recessive (this crossing depends on whether the white is recessive or dominate) 100% barred
Barred X White dominate 100% white

Wow...I am amazed you took the time to figure out all that for me. Thank you so much! That deff makes it easier to order. A chicken calculator really? My mother won't stop laughing for an hour. She already thinks I have lost my mind with all the chickens, and the chicken website I am always talking about. lol Some people just don't get it.
