How awesome!!! I wish I could see that! Amazing :) Thank you for sharing!

Aww sad! In going to give it a shot. I have had a couple pullets die on me. Always sad! I'm curious what your chick looked like ? You have any pictures . If you still want eggs no problem ! I'm not sure what part of the state you live in but you can have for free if you want to pay for shipping. Was the pullet cute?

Hi! Tried to look for pics, but couldn't find any. My chick only lived a week and a half, so hadn't feathered in or anything

Good luck with yours and please post pics!!! Thanks so much for the egg offer, I am in southern Calif(orange county) and would definitely pay shipping! Can I PM you when my girl goes broody...again?

Hi! I recently purchased to chickens that I believe are cochins. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if they look purebred and the colors they are considered :) I really like them alot and am thinking of trying to find a rooster, just not sure what color would be right or what others cross with them. Thank you for any help!!

I would consider them breeder quality. They have some faults, even traits that would disqualify at a show, but there are some very nice qualities about them. I particularly like the head on the hen/pullet in the first picture. From what I am able to see, she appears to have a very nice Asiatic head. Also the female in the next to last and one above it looks like she could be a Lemon Blue. What I would do is, look for a very nice Blue male with heavy feathering on the feet, legs etc. You could breed the Lemon Blue to the Blue, but I don't know what he would do to lemon coloring. The LB's head is OK, but not quite as nice as the Splash hen. You might also try a Black male with the first female. I say this because she could be a Splash, in which case if you breed her to a Black you would get 100% Blues. The Lemon Blue looking female should ideally be bred to a Red Brown, but it is even harder to find them in large fowl because it is a project variety at this point. Justin Harper lives in FL and actually owns a LF Lemon Blue male. I will tell him about you and see if he is interested in talking about it.
Oh, by the way - are their combs single or pea combs?

Thank you so much for all the info. I'm new at this, but I was wondering if my one girl was a lemon blue! I know and understand about the color with the splash but wasn't sure about the other, whether or not she was a lemon blue and what is best color to breed. I found a blue rooster from another person on this thread but won't be able to get him until January. Its so hard to find the LF. I don't show but would like to breed for birds that would maybe be able to if someone wanted to. More or less breed to improve :) As for there combs you know I havn't looked close enough to tell but I will and get back with you. I believe you would say pea comb but will double check. They are young, around 7/8 months. Not laying yet! Thanks again for your help :)

Pepper laid her first eggs! One yesterday (on the left) and another today (on the right.) She'll be 7 months old in a couple days, so I was surprised! She is also acting like she wants to go broody... she even sat on her second egg today and bit me when I took it, though she has certainly not committed to nest yet. Still, cochins don't waste time on that front, do they? I'm so relived! Here I was worried she was ill because she was acting broody-like but wasn't laying. Her hormones jumped the gun. We were only home from the vet after receiving a clean bill of health for an hour before egg #2 came.

She laid them both in my computer chair, but she seems to want to nestle down and raise a family on the couch. If she commits to nest, I'm gonna get some serama eggs and make her a proper place to stay. Until then, I guess she can tell herself pretty lies about getting to sit on the sofa for the next month.

Ok her are my 2 hens combs. I guess they are at fault with the combs, so does this exclude them from being cochins or is it just a fault. I think they are considered pea comb? Also after holding them and taking close up photos they look alot older then the lady said. Supposedly were hatched in March/April of 2014, I'm thinking maybe 2013:) I still like them and if my Ameraucanas don't beat them to it maybe they will go broody one day when I need them.
