Hello All :)
I have a Cochin trio question for you! I'm new to breeding chickens and I'm not sure if this is normal behavior or not. My blue rooster seems to be favoring one black hen. The blue hen is literally sitting in the run while my rooster and black hen stay in the coop. She seems to be the odd hen out and I'm wondering if this is normal. I've posted this in the breeding forum as well, as I'm not quite sure where I should be asking this.... Thank you for any advise you can give!

I have another ridiculous question! How much breeding would be considered “overbreeding”? How often should they be breeding?

Roosters will sometimes mate as often as every 10 minutes. That's why it's suggested to keep 10-15 hens per rooster to spread the mating out more. Doesn't help if a rooster is favoring an easy hen though. Adding more hens may help.

Ok, I don’t have a lot of room in my coop..... should I consider putting him in another area to himself for a while?

You certainly can keep him separately and than add a hen to be mated a few times a week. That way he may mate both. Mating usually slows down by fall.

How long have you had these birds?
How long have the been confined together?
