Lethargic chicken, won't eat, diarrhea

how is your chicken doing? ponazuril and troltrazuril are both treatments for coccidia that kills the parasite. if you can not get coccidia meds then i’d use the corrid as it is better then nothing.

Hi, thanks for checking in! I took her to a vet today. Nothing showed on the fecal, no egg or pieces of egg found, no fever, but she has declined and was weak, pale, and clearly anemic. She only weighed 3.8 lbs. The doctor put her on Panacur in case of parasites (even though no obvious signs), an antibiotic in case of a secondary infection somewhere, and Corrid in case of coccidia that didn't show up. Kind of a hail Mary to see if anything works. If she makes it 3 more days but isn't any better, I'm going to let her go. She's too sweet to let her suffer. Fingers and toes crossed that something makes her feel better and she'll start eating.

see if the vet will prescribe ponazuril or toltrazuril as you use it for 2 to 3 days then again in 10 days.

can you force feed her (putting some food in her beak with a syringe) and a heat supplement ?

when my chicken was sick she was on an antibiotic but i had to force feed her (because of the antibiotics she was on) once she was off the antibiotic she was eating on her own. giving her a heating pad was also helpful (not sure if you can offer her a heating pad lamp?) i really hope you chicken makes it

if she is not eating due to feeling nauseous try giving her glutathione as this helps them detox. have you checked for mites? i recently purchased 2 chicks and i noticed they had poor appetites and it turned out they had mites (luckily i had them. quarantined away from my others)

We did discuss ponazuril and toltrazuril but she didn't want to give them I think because of the dosage with her weight being low. I can't afford the $895 for a tube online either. She thinks she's not eating due to just feeling crappy from the anemia and said if the meds start working, she will start eating on her own, but we'll see. I may try to force feed if she doesn't start soon.

I do regularly check for mites and no one has had them. The doctor checked her too and saw no signs.

She's inside the house, so no need for a heater.

Corid is usuallybthe most common first drug to use for coccidiosis. Her fecal was negative, so using Corid is pretty safe just in case. No need for toltrazuril or others. The wormer and antibiotic are also good, just to cover everything. I would agree that this may be reproductive disorder or infection, but many times we don’t know exactly what unless they die and a necropsy can be done. You can try offering soft mushy wet chicken feed plus a little egg, but if she won’t eat, try torpedo feeding. That is just making little torpedo shaped bite sized pieces of feed, egg, and a little water that can be placed into her beak to swallow. What do her droppings look like?
