In this site there seem to be a lot of people with health questions about cochins quite a bit. I myself had a cochin die last year for no reason ( only on year at age) and earlier this year has a rooster with maggots (wich he is fine now

] In the past i had many mutt breeds of chickens and never had a single problem. Now, my cochins are extremly healthy now. But, like i said alot of people seem to have trouble with them . Correct me if Im wrong, maybe i just got a little Biased. Are they a weaker breed/ Strain?
Thanks In advance for your input.

Edited to add I love my cochins alot!

I've not heard about anything specific to cochins that would make them a "weak" breed as a whole, but I could be wrong. I think its all in how they're bred, raised and kept as to how many health problems they have (and of course, accidents DO happen). Could it be that they're just THAT popular, that more people talk about them in comparison to other breeds?

Everything dies from a reason - it just might not be an *apparent* reason...

I keep an extremly clean coop. My Birds Are also wormed (; (did it the first time last week) and next week will be tested.

Well, I only have two true cochins, and in my experience they're tough little buggers. One hen got frostbite real bad last winter and got an infection that would have killed most birds. But not her.
Frizzles on the other hand need a little more help in the winter. Mine get their own space heater. I love watching them stand in front of it, slowly rotating, and fighting for space in front!

I have several breeds of bantams, and really have not noticed any one breed being weaker/stronger than the next. I agree...it's how they are bred and kept. Sometimes they (all birds) can die from stress/heart attack/etc.
