I've just been told Pekins/Cochins don't have spurs
Unless there has been some kind of cross breeding
Is this true?

Not true!!!
I despur my boys every other to every 2 months. Just so my girls don't get accidentally cut.

I have 2.5 inch spurs hanging in my barn as a display. Everyone thinks their fangs.

I have had Buff Cochins and can tell you that they do have spurs. The good news is that they are calm, gentle breeds, but I trimmed the roosters' spurs anyway, just to be on the safe side.
