Cochins vs. Silkies Who's the Better Broody?

Score: three for silkies five for cochins

who will be the winner?

I have both and I must say that it depends on the individual hen.

I have one Silkie that forgets where her nest is and will sit on the coop floor, so I must constantly check and relocate her if necessary. Tonight this same hen was sitting beside her nest while her 14 week old chick was sitting in her nest!

I have had Cochins that would sit until the chicks hatched, then would have nothing to do with them and let the other hens peck them.

I do think that, as a rule, Cochins are better at raising chicks. I especially like them for fostering Guinea keets free range. They stick with them for at least 3 months.

I have three cochins and they have all been broody, Carley has been broody twice and very stubborn about it! I have never had a silke so I dont know about them

Cochin by far. Silkies will sit on the floor beside the eggs or nest. I use a lot of broodies for my waterfowl, turkeys and peafowl.and may have up to 40 setting at one time and cochins are the best all the way around. And I do have a lot of silkies I just don't use them for broodies.
