Hi all,
I am sorry to put such a radical title on my post, but I found the site and am looking to figure out if a neighbor is peddling fighting roosters.

I"m sure you all MUST be as AGAINST cock fighting as we are?

He must have 50 roosters, in indiviual small folded over metal hut looking things.

We have taken pictures, complained to the authorities, etc., and being rural small community it's just ignored.

My question; Is there ever any OTHER reason someone would have a rooster farming set up like that?

It's an open secret he's told people 'it's not illegal' to raise them and supposedly , no proof, sells them to others for fighting.

Based on what I've read here so far, having too many roosters is a bad thing and there are more then plenty around???

As far as I know, it isn't illegal to raise them, just fight them.

This guy sounds like a few people in my "neck of the wood".

We have 2 places like this that are relatively close to us and illegal cock fighting is big here in TN. DH & I always wondered what was going on too!

Sorry that this isn't much help!

It probably is not the case here but, some people keep roosters for their feathers. Something about fly fishing.

Chances are he's selling them for cock fighting, especially if they are game birds. Hackle feathers of good quality, usually of things like barred rocks, can go for a decent amount considering it's just a patch of feathers.

I am in south eastern KY, and they have cock fighting arenas here. With cock fighting every weekend. It is illegal but they don't really inforce it unless a fight breaks out of people call in for drugs and drinking. I think its sad and stupid. i'd like to scratch and claw a few of the ring leaders. My husband used to cock fight when he was a teenager, but not anymore. its pointless and cruel.

I heard the Humane Society of the United States is offering $1,000 to anyone who turns in cock fighters or dog fighters...maybe you should tell them about your area, Jennifer? I was afraid I was going to hear there was no options regarding it though.....how sad.

Hell, I'd turn them in for free. People who do things such as making animals fight bring shame to the human race. I'd like to get my hands on someone doing that crap. If they wanta fight I'll give em one. :thun

Contact the organization and give them the info, they can help get the ball rolling to bust this guy.

I can tell you as an ex ACO that was involved in busting a cock fighting ring here in GA that it will take some time for the right people to infiltrate and collect evidence.
As i'm sure you already know, going to the local authorities will get you nowhere. They don't have the man power or resources it takes to properly investigate a case like this.

They just raided the cock fighting arena a few weeks ago. Arrested a few and shut it down. But I am sure its back up and running.
I think that may be part of the problem, there is no Humane Society with in hours of here. Probly Lexington is the closest. The state police did shut down a ring a couple of counties over about 2 weeks ago. They let a man out of VA adopt the roos because he had plenty of room and had rescued fighting roos before. They were afraid to let anyone around here adopt them, afraid they would just start fighting them again.

in portland, OR (where i am from) it is illegal to have roosters, for crowing, cock fighting, and dealing. i am guessing (and hoping) it is illegal to deal cocks for cock fighting!!!
