That stuff makes me sick! The RIR's I have now were given to my son-in-law, he tried to sell the Roo and 3 hens when he got bored with them but the only taker was a man that wanted the Roo to fight! I made it clear that man wasn't getting them. I built and pen and I have them now. My son-in-law wouldn't let them man have the Roo because he knew what he would do with him. Now I'm hooked and want to build an incubator! Boy Sparkey (Roo) got me in all kinds of trouble! LOL

It is very hard to prove who is fighting and who is sparring to be able to sell these birds. It is not legal to fight them, but there is no law against raising them. I personally house nearly 50 roosters a year. Mostly my longtails, yes I sell extra cockeral pelts for fly tying, and yes they all crow. I love to hear them, the neighbor not so much. The DH is retired animal control and has assisted the USHS with 2 seperate raids in other states. They have some very pretty varieties of birds so he says. WE understand the need to raise birds and are totally against fighting or even sparing birds. In fact if a scuffle comes about here a new pen is built and the offenders are dealt with. I'm with the others contact the locals and the national authorities it takes time to build cases, be patient an insider is often necessary and time consuming. But they do try.

Unless you can get him to admit that he is raising them for fighting {Record it somehow} (Very hard unless hes stupid) it will be next to impossible to prove. He could just say "Well I thought they just liked roosters how was I supposed to know they fought them!"

You have a better chance then Law Enforcement of catching him. Private citizens aren't held to the same standards as Law Enforcement. IE You can't be entrapped by a private citizen the way you can be by Cops...

Just be careful and don't get yourself into hot water. Remember people who fight cocks, do so for money. Where there is lots of money you have a criminal element. Where there is a criminal element you have gangs/groups of people who have no qualms about killing. You take away their supplier of cocks, they just might come after YOU! Please do be careful! Saving some birds IMO is not worth your life. Just as quick as you put him out of business someone else will step in.....

It's still legal in Louisiana, but only until Aug 2008. Their legislature just passed the bill last month. They made it illegal to bet on fights starting August this year, but the ban on fighting doesn't take effect until next year.

That is what I thought but this fact sheet confused me. I watch Animal Cops Houston (

) and I remember it being discussed about it being legal in LA.

Take care,

It is illegal here in Texas, but there is an interesting loophole. You can set up a training facility to show people how to raise and train gamecocks. There was a newspaper article about one here in my area a few months ago. Seems strange to me, but that's Texas for you.
