Cockatiel questions

The one thing you need to be careful of if you try to mix species is sometimes it doesn’t work and they really shouldn’t share a cage. Budgies can be good housemates but can also bully cockatiels as they are quite docile compared to the fiery personality of little budgies. A have had friendly relations between my cockatiels and doves however the cockatiels could hurt the dove with their sharp beak. It depends on the two birds in question. I have had the dove age up and decide he wants to start slapping his cockatiel friend and that’s too risky for me to house them together. Fly together in the house with supervision? Yes. Also don’t mix other parrots with the cockatiels or budgies without close supervision and never caged together. There is always the rare exception but I have three small parrots that are bullies to the cockatiels and budgies and even each other. They have to monitored and have separate out times.

I have raised mine as babies and mine turned on each other violently out of no where and on the rest of the flock. They were all babies at the same time. Cockatiels, greenie, two quakers. My bird has missing toes to confirm it. They all got along well with no issues and then hormones hit and boom. Even my two quakers girls that have been raised together from day one turned on each other and can longer be out together. I can understand how it has worked for some people however it is very risky business and even without cage sharing and growing up together mine turned brutal and horrific for more than one poor bird that was attacked without warning. I urge you to use extreme caution especially with other small parrots. Having more than one species is great but always keep your eyes in them when you allow them together for safety and know your bird is capable of doing to another.
Fortunately I was able to save mine that were attacked but they had a lot of healing and blood loss.
