Cockatiel sounds meaning

Woah woah woah, I am NOT criticizing you in anyway.

I have a LOT of experince with animals, and I am trying to tell you that he does need a friend.
A human does not replace another bird, How would you feel, stuck without anyone else other then maybe a dog, or a cat?
And, if you can't afford to FULLY care for a animal, you shouldn't get that animal.
You sound pretty criticizing to me.

What a cutie! I love cockatiels, just seems like chatter to me...when our cockatiel and parrot were upset you could tell! mean little nuggets when they wanted to be.

Welcome!:frow
My mom had a cockatiel the entire time I was growing up. His name was Ragtime Billy Peaches lol.
We called him Billy. He was perfectly happy alone.
They do need to be socialized with regularly though.
In other words, take him out every day and handle him and talk to him. Try to keep him in a room where there is some activity throughout the day (just not constant, as that can be stressful).
You need a blanket or sheet to cover his cage at night to help him sleep. Also, when he's getting really loud and you need to concentrate.
His sounds and behavior are normal for cockatiels.
If you can't afford a friend for him a mirror in his cage can be helpful.
I HIGHLY recommend getting a book about basic cockatiel information and care.
There are certain foods, and chemicals that can harm/kill them and we all need to educate ourselves about any animal we are caring for.
You should also know they can live a very long time. I've heard upwards of 60-70 years!
Get a book about Cockatiels and read it! You'll be glad for the information.
Also, find a vet in your area that will treat birds in case you need one.
He's a beautiful guy!

He does some weird movement with his head and I will get him a friend as soon as he starts talking.
I was breeding cockatiels for years. If you want your bird to talk don’t get him a friend. They don’t need one as long as you spend time every day with him. As for the sound he’s playing around your dresser mirror. Strutting his stuff. Is all head bobs are normal. If he ever bobs his head and try’s to throw up on you he’s not throwing up he’s trying to feed you. That’s what bonded tiels do. It’s kinda gross but it really is a complement he’s bonded to you.

Don’t get him a mirror. Wow how uninformed some info can be. If you want a bird to talk don’t get him a friend or a mirror. You are his friend he sees you talk he will talk. Some are better then others. As for age about 15-20years not 60-70. It’s a cockatiel not cockatoo. Book is always good go to the library. Don’t keep him near the kitchen or in it while cooking most houses use Teflon pans the fumes are deadly. As for foods almost any thing you can eat he can. There are some toxic foods I forget those but look on the internet. Easy find.

I have breed and raised parrots for over 30 years. They don’t need a friend as long as you keep them stimulated. Play games with him. My pets were always around me when I was home. I have breed 6 types of cockatiels. Best we’re the white faced. I had 20 breading pairs of conures from suns to mitered. Pair of lesser and greater sulfur crested cockatoos. Green wing macaw blue and gold macaw. Oh and I also worked as a Mgr at a pet shop for 15 years.

Cockatiels are perfectly happy without another bird for company as long as he's getting attention from the people he loves (and who love him), especially if he was hand reared. They need at least 2 hours of your time daily, and he looks like a typical boy, showing off and telling everyone how wonderful he is. That's what our young boy does - he gets in the others faces and makes sure they are paying attention too! Average lifespan for a cockatiel is 15-20 years, though I've read of them living up to 30. There is lots of stuff online about cockatiels as they are very popular pets. Just ask Mr Google!

He sounds like he's trying to talk to me - keep up with those voice lessons! Our boy imitates our Java finches and does a funny laugh too. They are gorgeous things.

Yes I admit I'm not an expert.
Just trying to help since I did have one for a while.

I do remember reading that you shouldn't get them a mirror if you want to teach them to talk.
However, our bird learned quite a few phrases even though he had a mirror.
As for uninformed...that's why I suggested the book.
I learned what I know about chickens from books THEN I joined the forum.
People have many differing opinions (and results) about certain aspects of animal care.
