When my white leghorn roo was old enough to breed, he chased the dominate hen around trying to catch her.When he did, my younger and less dominate hen attacked him.He stopped and the hen he was trying to breed chased the other hen.It was odd.I guess she wanted chicks,but didn't want to breed.Now that my rooster is older,the hens let him do what he wants to and he chases them less often.
When my RIR roo tried to do it for the first time,he was too heavy to chase the faster hens around and gave up until they were ready.
