Hi, I have a 4 month old cockerel who is usually the first to eat and very active.
Today I noticed he had been hiding most of the day in the hen house on the roost bar. I thought he was getting beat up by the other cockerels or something. So eventually I let them out of their run to give them all some space. He was acting was slower than normal, you know, he lost the bird movement, and looked more slow and mammal like . He stayed behind all the others, and I havent seen him eat much all day.

I picked him up to show the wife and to inspect him a bit, he let me pick him up pretty easily, and kinda perched on my arm. The pressure pushed out a bit of clearish liquid from his mouth, which he tried to drink up as it was coming out. He did this 3 times.

ANy ideas on what I can do , or look for? THere are 9 other chickens housed with him currently, and he is the only one acting weird.

Thanks

PS - I tried smelling his mouth, but I didnt smell anything at all. Ive never dealt with sour crop, so no diea what I was even smelling for =P

Thanks, is the treatment basically just emptying it over and over until condition gets better? Im a bit confused on all the sour crop info Ive read as far as treatment goes.
Yes, and putting little breaks in between each treatment. You could do it a few times in the morning, afternoon and nighttime for however many days it takes to get better.

Can you please post some photos of the cockerel and his poop?

If the crop is full of liquid and not moving, then I would treat as Sour Crop. I would not vomit a chicken unless I had exhausted all efforts of attempting to clear the crop for days.
A crop issue is often a symptom of an underlying condition. Worms, Coccidiosis and infection are few.

I would separate out the cockerel so he isn't picked on. Make sure he has shade/adequate ventilation if your weather is hot. Provide him with cool water to drink (always make water available during waking hours). Since the crop is not emptying I would withhold food for a day.

I would get some Clotrimazole or Miconazole (both can be found in the vaginal yeast section of your pharmacy/walmart/dollar store - generic brands are fine) and treat him for Sour Crop. Do not massage a sour crop. Follow the instructions in the articles below for treatment of Sour crop.

Check his crop first thing in the morning before he's consumed anything. It can take days to resolve a crop issue. As you will read, the yeast medication is given for 7 days twice a day. I recommend that you follow that. I know it seems like a lot, but believe me. I've done this.

Now, figuring out why he's got sour or impacted crop is another issue. If possible, get a fecal float to check for worms and coccidia overload. If that's not possible, then photos of several of his poops may help.

That crop felt like a heavy water sack.
I apologize, I did not insert the link. It's below.

He's handsome!
How long have you had him?
Is he the only cockerel/rooster you have?
I would check out his beak too, hard to tell in the photo if it's chipped or possibly cracked. This can be painful and they don't eat/drink well for several days. Either way, I would make sure he's got fresh water to drink if you with hold feed for a day.

Thanks for link!
Hes 4 months old, hatched from egg. I actually have a 1 year old and five 4-month old roosters currently, although I was/am in the process of getting half of them to new homes.(I just want to make sure they are healthy now)
Luckily his beak is not cracked, he just has some "color leakage" on the tip of his beak. Most of his hatchmates have all black beaks, but his was always white on the tip. :)

Of all my chickens(16 of them) he has been my favorite personality wise. It was so weird to see him hiding and not eating.
