Welcome to BYC!Forgive my ignorance, but what are spears? Thankyou, I think you are right unfortunately. Will give him time to show I think. I'm in the same boat with a silkie at the moment. I just can't not keep him
Hi all
I have this chick - I think he/she is around 2-3 months? Starting to suspect it might be a boy, which is a shame because my broody hen is very attached to him after the other chick died suddenlyCan you help me identify please?
Thank you,for the correction i did mean spurs. They grow above the roosters feet, just look up the word on google and you can probably see a picture.Welcome to BYC!
Think they might have meant 'spurs'...which won't really start growing until 6 months.
The bright red comb is the indicator of a male at this age. Shiny and pointed hackle and saddle feathers will start to emerge at about 3-4 months.
I believe the males spurs are larger though which also helps tell the difference.both sexes can have spurs. Male gender feathering - pointy hackle & saddle feathers start developing around 12 weeks of age.
