Cockerel or Pullet

Hi, can anyone help with sexing this 4 week old Barred Plymouth Rock chick? Thanks!

Certainly looks more like a Cuckoo Marans, unless the lighting is deceiving.

So far, nothing screaming cockerel. In fact, the current dark coloration is more indicative of a pullet than anything.

Color, comb and wattles says cockerel. You should start seeing hackle feathers soon and crowin too!

The egg was sold to us as a Barred Plymouth Rock. Are these two breeds usually confused? Sorry I’m new to the chicken loving community!!

I thought so too but don’t want to be too hopeful. What do you look for that helps you decide?

Yes, and we are correct at least 50% of the time.

The two are very similar, the most telling difference is that a BR has yellow legs and a CM has white.
This looks to me alike a pullet.
