I’ve got 3 chicks that I need help identifying if they’re cockerels or pullets. I’m fairly sure one is. He’s becoming a beautiful boy to. The other 2 I need help with. The 2 black ones are 9 weeks old. The brown one with a white chest is a red speckled Sussex that was supposed to be a pullet. The black ones are a barn yard mix with black langshan rooster & a Sussex momma. Please help. I’m 🤞🙏 that my Sussex is a pullet & not a cockerel.

I think 1 & 2 are cockerels and 3 is a pullet... there is technically a chance that #1 could be a large-combed pullet but I'd be weary, thats a fairly big comb and wattles for that age!
That’s my Sussex that was supposed to be a pullet. #2 is the one I was fairly sure was a cockerel already. I’m glad that at least one is a pullet. She’s super sweet. We’ve trained her to step up onto our arm when we tell her “up”.

Hatcheries can only really promise about an 80% accuracy when sexing chicks, I wish it was stated somewhere at feedstores :'( either way though, it'll be a pretty cockerel if it is! Sussex are gorgeous

Dang. Well, if it is a cockerel I won’t be able to keep him. I’ve already got 2 roosters. Any more might be a bit to much. My 2 boys have their flock sorted out so no squabbling. Adding a new male would throw off the balance.

post a pic of your sussex in a few weeks. comb says roo but tiny pale wattles say a minimum chance of pullet. time will tell.
