My two broody hens hatched out seven chicks almost 7 weeks ago. It has been one of the best and most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had. In the mix, we ended up with four suspected females and three males. In the past I’ve always had hens only and never had a desire to have a rooster. We did rehome one of the cockerels about a week and a half ago because a man that I go to church we had lost his and his little girls were devastated because they didn’t have a “daddy chicken”. The other two boys that I have right now are both very sweet and I know that I probably shouldn’t keep either one of them but now I’m thinking that I wouldn’t mind keeping one of them so that I could always have eggs to hatch if I wanted to. Has anyone here ever had a friendly cockerel grow up to be a friendly rooster and by friendly I mean good to the hens and doesn’t mind human contact? Am I being delusional to think that they would be friendly to me down the road? My chickens are strictly pets and the thought of being attacked scares me.

Allot that depends on you ... A cockerele as hormones take over needs to have manners taught much like a 3 year old..
Do you live where your not restricted that way?

I have two coops a main one and then the small one..
I have two roosters they do fence bump but have never hurt each other
