Cockerel-right??

These are my Polish mixes.
This one I was pretty positive was a boy for a while now. Even more now as when I uploaded the pics I noticead the green sheen in his tail feathers. Must have been the light from the flash as I have not noticead it before.

I am really really hoping this Polish mix (Polish/Silkie) is a girl!!!

There's only one other I have not determined yet and that is my NN/EE mix:

Leaning towards cockerel. A less washed-out photo might help.

I've seen people "say" red splotches on their shoulders/wings ment boys but I've never understood it. Well, the biogenetics of it anyway. I can't fathom that a female can not/will not ever have red or why. (Just to be clear, I'm not arguing it, just don't understand the genetics behind it.)
I was pretty sure that he was a he. In the beginning I was sure he was a he just on the attitude alone (his name is Scrappy if that tells you anything..lol) Then the other boy's crowns and wattles grew faster and bigger and he calmed down and wasn't so scrappy so I thought, maybe he's not a he. Then in the last couple weeks they've grown a bit and got darker pink so I was back to he, but not positive. lol
I dont' know the genetics behind it, I just know male and female birds are colored differently. Lots of birds have different plumage patterns for male vs female, and chickens are the same. Males are as a rule brighter colored, with patchier, flashier coloring. Their coloring is designed to draw attention, say "Look at me!". Hens are drab, more even colored, designed to blend in and say "you don't see me setting here on this nest". Of course, humans have bred different colors into different breeds, but the basic pattern stays the same, especially on the wild-type colored birds.
