Cockerel slow feathering - is this normal?

Hi y'all,
So I hatched some eggs at the end of April, the growers are now 9 weeks old but my speckled sussex cockerel still has a lot of down whilst the others (Marans and Barbu d'Uccles) have feathers up fine. Any thoughts? He seems otherwise healthy. x

I’d assume your speckled Sussex just feathers up slower. Anyways, I hope they do fine. Best wishes to you and the flock!

I've noticed that cockerels are usually slower to get their feathers then the hens..

Can you take an individual picture of your d'uccle? It looks unlike any d'uccle I've seen before.

Hi, you can't really see the d'uccle in the picture above. Here's one attached below, it's a milifleur but without a lot of white, mostly brown with black speckles. You can see the marans mostly in the pic above which are fully feathered. The speckled sussex isn't catching up very quickly, I know cockerels feather slower but this one seems abnormal.

She's very pretty!

Though I'd say she's more likely a mix, since she doesn't have any mottling (white spots).

Interesting you say that, I was a bit disappointed with the colour and they don't look like the picture of the so called 'parents' - they were ebay eggs haha. Too late now as I've fallen for them - they're so sweet natured and sit in my hand for a tickle so I'm happy.
