Looks like a cockerel. I have 4 Cockerels, 1 Midnight Majesty marans a Black Jersey Giant, a lavender orpington and a Buckeye. They are all exactly 4 months old, my midnight majesty marans started crowing 2 weeks ago my others started crowing about 1 week ago although my Orpington is very mellow and doesn't crow much. The Marans just started chasing the girls around but hasn't figured out how to get his business done. So I would say your young boy is still not matured yet.
