Cockerel?

I will be surprised if it does crow! Agree, pullet. 😊
Ohmygosh! Really??? lol…Ok…why do you guys say pullet?? I think cockerel because it’s the only one with no tail feathers, very upright posture, super thick legs and feet, largest comb so far, and pointy back and neck feathers coming in. The other chick I have of the same breed is much lighter in color, long tail feathers, hardly any comb, more delicate looking in general…just totally different ā€œlookā€. It’s so funny…I know only time will tell, but it’s so fun to feel convinced and then hear I might be wrong anyway!! 😊

Leg thickness and tail feathers do not indicate gender. Secondary male characteristics (pointy hackle and saddle feathers) do not come in until 12+ weeks.
This bird has a small and yellow comb and appears to have female specific coloring.
😊

Small, pale comb and wattles.

Not accurate for sexing. Might be right more than half the time, but not enough more to be useful.

Since they've been mixing breeds to create these birds, some variation is to be expected.

pointy back and neck feathers coming in.
Could you try to get a good photo of them? I'm not seeing them in the photos you posted.

Also, look carefully to see whether the feathers have a pointy shape, or whether they have pointy markings inside a round-shaped feather. Birds with markings in the feathers can be confusing that way.

I would expect some variation among birds from this mixed breeding, but I would also expect males to have a black breast (which your chick does not.)

Yes, time will tell.
Please do update once it becomes clear (crowing or eggs), because then we will all know too ;)

All right pullet people…I have to confess I’m beginning to think you are right!!! Here are new pics…birds are now 8 weeks old…(both are MPC Partridge Olive Egger) darker bird is ā€œsuspected rooā€ but I’m beginning to think I am wrong!! šŸ¤” When do cockerels start trying to crow?

All of these are 100% pullets. Zero doubts. They have female specific patterns/colors.

Cockerels start to crow whenever they want. Some as early as 3-4 weeks.
