Cockerell showing his temper

My experience is if they act like that once, they will always do it again. I have never understood why anyone would tolerate that behavior in a chicken--with children involved at that. You don't want the little one to grow up afraid of chickens or seriously injured, (think an eye mauled by the rooster). This aggressive behavior is also hereditary, so his offspring may very well be a aggressive to boot.

Soup pot.

That outta teach him with 25 hens, he'll be to pooped, probably dragging his ass around or hen pecked into behaving . Mine was a jerk when he matured so I pulled an evil one on him, I went and got 4 leghorn hens, that was hilarious he didn't know what hit them, they pulled a dive bomb on him from 4 different directions. he was a bit out of it for a few days trying to figure out what just happened but behaved himself around the hens. lol. just remember to warn your dad

Roosters are a dime a dozen, try to find you one that's gonna give your family good luvin'...

Seriously though, roosters really are a dime a dozen so when one of them becomes human aggressive, regardless of circumstances, he's gotta go. In my household, he'd be processed come nightfall, aged in the fridge and cooked in a few days. That's just how I rock 'n' roll.

risking a small child
At my parents their chicken yard is about 3000sqf and the kids don't go inside. My dad killed the last rooster that was ultra mean so he would easily do what was necessary. My place is the risk because it's fun for the kids to play at with little goats and friendly chickens. And dont worry...no child would ever be in there with him again. He has never batted an eye at any kid until today - even when they picked his ladies up for a pet and scratch. They have been in an out of that enclosure long before he was even born (we hatched him and his sisters in our incubator). My parents dont breed their chickens but sell their eggs (collected daily). Having a rooster with their flock, in the past, has kept them pretty protected when they free-ranged. We have lots of coyotes and foxes around here.

If you do a search on here there are several threads and articles on taming and keeping roosters. You might be able to find something that will work in your situation. But I would definitely not let him around any children, roosters can do serious damage. Good luck with your little wild boy. :)
