Maybe....they have 25 laying hens and 25 pullets. Perhaps he needs more territory and ladies to protect. Might be choice no.1 - and my dad has no problem making rooster stew if they are attackers.sounds like a trade would work
but as he said dad and is aware of the issue and don't have a problem with if he's not behaving his dad has no problem sending him to the pot or freezer camp, that is the pointBehaving around hens doesn't mean doing well with children, and risking a small child with him isn't reasonable.

At my parents their chicken yard is about 3000sqf and the kids don't go inside. My dad killed the last rooster that was ultra mean so he would easily do what was necessary. My place is the risk because it's fun for the kids to play at with little goats and friendly chickens. And dont worry...no child would ever be in there with him again. He has never batted an eye at any kid until today - even when they picked his ladies up for a pet and scratch. They have been in an out of that enclosure long before he was even born (we hatched him and his sisters in our incubator). My parents dont breed their chickens but sell their eggs (collected daily). Having a rooster with their flock, in the past, has kept them pretty protected when they free-ranged. We have lots of coyotes and foxes around here.risking a small child
