Cockerels Mating w/Cockerels??!! Normal??!!

That reminds me of our WFBS banty cockerel we named Laurel (we have nicknamed him Jack the Ripper, for pretty obvious reasons!

) He started pestering our pullets when they were only like eight weeks old. Of course, it was a little easier on them since they are LF and he is Banty, but it was still unpleasant to see.

I'm sorry to hear that "Roy" killed your pullets: man, if my Leghorn does that, I'll shoot him dead on site. My younger pullets are very delicate, especially my poor Orloff girl. Your terrorized cockerel sounds like my Gimli (the Orloff cockerel). He seems to HATE being around the Leghorn.

Heh, I thought about tying him up, but don't have a rope thin enough to fit snug around his leg

I dunno if this helps you or not, but homosexuality naturally occurs in many species. If he's injurious to your other hens OR cockerels, he'll have to go.

But I do think this is likely a case of hormones and dominance. Heck, last summer I caught a raccoon on another racoon... who was on my oscillating sprinkler.

Good luck; hope he figures it out!

This is typical behavior when you have more than one cockeral coming of age. They will seek breeding rights and pecking order dominance. Can you correct the behavior? Maybe. I have successfully corrected mine ee cockeral from riding the wyandotte cockeral (slower to mature). You have to be able to commit time outside with the flock. Everytime there are dominance displays you have to run over grab the offender and hold him down just like he does to the others. Once he knows you are in charge things should settle down. I don't let roos mount male or female in my presence. It helps keep the order of things and the girls are not ridden so hard.
