They are 7 weeks old. The white one is an EE and the tan one is a buff orpington. I've been suspecting the white one is a rooster because it made a funny sound a few days ago. This morning the tan one was lifting its head and opening it's mouth, but no sound came out--I hope it's not a rooster, too! Has anyone ever had a chick that did either of those things but turned out to be a hen? Please tell me what you think based on the pics. Thank you!

SteveBaz, thank you for your helpful comments on all of my posts!
Do you mean the ones you had behaved that way (opening mouth, raising head, making funny long low sounds while lifting head, but turned out to be pullets?
Do these guys look like roosters to you? I'm not as experienced!

My boy was 5 months old before he ever crowed, he was the only boy so it wasn't that he was low on the pecking order or anything, and he is an EE. I am leaning towards boy for the white EE, that comb is pretty big and pink for a 7wk old, but the other one looks like a girl to me (but it's still pretty early)

I think your white one is a boy! My ameraucanas are almost 8 weeks old and I have 2 boys and 3 girls...the girls have no comb or color and the boys have a small red comb like yours...one of my lady ameraucanas didn't crow till 7 months old!

oh boyyyy, any other thoughts? Seems pretty even on the white one--half think boy , half think girl. Good to hear that the buff orp is probably a girl, though.
