Cockoo maran x araucana questions.

Hey everyone!
We recently bred our cockoo maran hen with our rumpless golden duck winged araucana rooster. We are just wondering if anyone had a guess on what color eggs or new hens would lay. Also if they would turn out much like a black sex link and be mainly black in color. Any guesses/info would be appreciated.

I would guess that they will most likely lay an olive colored egg - do an on site search on 'olive eggers'.

What color egg does the hen lay? My cuckoo maran lays the most wimpy light brown egg so that cross with her would be a light green egg. I'm thinking you should end up with mostly barred chicks.

They should be sex linked, as the hen can only pass her barring gene on to her male offspring. Any chick with a visible white dot on the back of the head would be male.

The pullets will not be barred.

The hen lays dark brown speckled eggs, we are hoping for olive eggs but I have read that the hen has to be the blue/green egg layer for olive eggers, I don't know if that's true but I suppose I will soon find out.

Also thank you for the sexing tip that means we have 3 hens and only 1 rooster!!!!! As one of her 4 chicks is barred out like our Plymouth rock chicks from the same hatch (not the same rooster/hen)

What breed is your rooster? Previous posters are assuming he is Araucana since he is rumpless.

Never mind........

After reading the title of the thread....... your pullets will inherit the blue shell gene from their father. They will lay an egg with a shade of green.
