Coconut water for chicks

They were pretty perky to start with, and it certainly didn't dampen their spirits. They finally found the fresh water, but they've gone back to the coconut water since then. They travel in a pack around the brooder: first we're by the coconut water for a while, then we travel to the fresh water, then we scratch in the grit for a few minutes, then back to the coconut water.

Haha yeah chicks only want to do what everyone else is doing ;) glad to hear it did them good! I'm very excited to find an alternative for electrolytes. My ducks don't seem to like the water with the mix in it so maybe they will take to this.

My little partridge rock might be addicted... is it normal for a chick to drink a lot more often than her sisters?

Maybe... it really depends. If the chick is alert and active I wouldn't worry about it. All chicks are different, and some will eat or drink more than others.

One note: the sugar from the coconut water is making their chin feathers a little crusty, and they're scratching at their chins occasionally. I'm not worried about it, but it's something to be aware of.

heck I give my chicks Gatorade and powerade as its no more expensive than the electrolytes for chicks...they really like the red ones...and i give them vegetable juice ect..jeff

The coconut water might be easier to absorb too. The ph of it is closer to the body's. Good info to know!
