We bought a plum tree today, I'm going to plant it tomorrow.

Still Morning, so Good morning,

Already been to docs for DW and she sees another later this am.

Ground Hog is still here, ugh!

Have someone coming for free chicks. I've selected the ones I'd like to keep.

Thought I'd lost one yesterday.. They were all squawking the alarm. I didn't see anything but think I saw a Falcon fly away. Just caught the white of the tail. I had an attack and lost a hen a couple of years ago. They are amazing birds and with the small chicks I suspect have no trouble carrying one off. Not really chicks. Fully feathered and mothers are done brooding them.

Well have a nice day,

Rancher

Good morning chicken wranglers,
Pears in the can sounds like a new project for my lovely wife. We do have a pear tree and I'm so ready for home canned fruit for dessert.
Yum. We should have canned spiced apples also yum {cinnamon}. Tomato's are the big project right now , making spaghetti sauce ,next week's tomato's will be pizza sauce ,after that is salsa.
Rngr you are a active guy for someone that keeps animals , do you have good neighbors that help with the chickens?
Felix good luck planting the plum tree hope you can see it through to fruition? YUK, YUK.
God Bless!

Good evening coffee to all. Was off to a field trial this AM. Tomorrow we will head out to Williamsport, Pa for a couple of days at the Little League World Series.

Morning.

Sour, I assume you're talking baseball now?

Karl, might still wait until tomorrow, we're supposed to get almost 2 inches of water today. Not nice to dig in that kind of weather. And I would need to mow the grass too...

Morning,
Felix: We were thinking of doing that this spring. I love plum cake. My sister and grandmother could make it that just thinking about it, my gut starts rumbling. Good luck with yours.

Karl: Nothing like canned fruit in the winter to brighten up the day. Making more sauce this week.

The oldest rat is coming over for dinner. Gave her a choice of BBQ hamburger, steak, chicken, lamb, duck, or BLTs. The girl after my heart..... BLTs.

How does everyone like their bacon? Thick/thin, chewy/crispy? I like mine thick and chewy, cooked in the over.

Enjoy your day, wood shop today

Kaj, baseball - yes. It's a little bit of Americana - a really great experience.

Bacon - fairly thick and not overcooked -

Good morning chicken wranglers,
Yes B.L.T.'s are a favorite of mine also. Nothing like bacon to brighten the darkest of hours, or mornings ! We have it as often as possible!
Felix 2 inches of rain would be a blessing would it not? Did you not say that you folks were experiencing a drought?
Q your tale reminded me , This morning whilst watering the stall calves I noticed a mouse swimming in one of the buckets, he was worn out barely keeping his nose above the water line.
I poured the water out and watched him for a moment . He just lied there breathing , I got the impression that he did not know he was free and all he could do was breath. I went to fill the buckets from the tank about 20 yards away, Iv went rinsed and filled walked back and he ,or she was still there, normally I'd have stepped on it as a nuisance but my empathy was working on me and I let it live . I will probably regret it this winter when the feed sacks are all chewed up, I'll remember my moment of weakness and lament my poor judgment.
It had struggled so hard for untold time that I could not at that moment eradicate it from the face of this earth and cheat it from all the future strife that life has in store for such creatures.

Did I mentioned that we have 6 new kittens for the barn?
We have made 9 quarts of sauce so far with 5 to go from the first round of maters , That is about 5 , 5 gallon buckets full of roma tomato's we have 10 more plants that were planted later and will not give ripe fruit until early September . We will also get about 25 more gallons of tomato's from the present plants we are harvesting from, Busy busy weeks in store for us now.
Keep on fowling,
God Bless!

Karl, We've since gone over to the "That's enough rain, thank you" stage. It started raining a week ago on Monday, and hasn't really stopped. I think we've gotten about 6 inches since then.

Bacon should be about 1mm thick, and not too crispy. I saw a trick for making perfect bacon, but haven't tried it yet. You start with a cold pan, place the bacon in it, and then pour in some water, just enough to cover the bottom of the pan. Then you turn the heat to high, and by the time the water has evaporated, you should have perfect bacon.
