Coffee's ready...

Sour, sounds like you deserved it

Who me? I was an innocent and pure young man.

What's the main thing you grow for the year? Is there anything you grow that you no longer buy?

We are still eating canned tomato sauce, we have dried carrots and kale left. The kale we had some last night. The beans were finished last week ( it was a late crop ), 2 qrts pickles, frozen rhubarb. Things we picked and processed from other farms, canned peaches, pears, beets and frozen blueberries, corn on the cob ( they sold 5 for $2.00 or $.50/ear, I would take the 5th one, wrap in saran wrap and freeze for late).

Enjoy your day

The better half's new tactic with my holey shirts. She no long says anything to me about tossing them. I mean, who can toss a well worn, with much history t-shirt.

. Anyways, she comes up to me, all sweet and everything, and then viciously rips the holes bigger....... to the point where the t-shirt is in taters........ Her parting comments usually are, "Looks like someone needs new T-SHIRTS".

I have one t-shirt that gets mean looks from Karin every time I use it (which is about once a year). It's this sleeveless t-shirt I bought at some market, it's black and says "Real men smell of Diesel", and it's truly atrocious. I just like putting it on sometimes to mess with her.

Good morning chicken wranglers,
The raised beds look good. All of my garden is at ground level. and under ground! Speaking of underground this year as in last, the harvest time is also a time of passing for our family.
We have lost people in the fall for the last 8 years running and it always messes with our harvest in one way or another. This year it was sweet potato's . Anyway after the mourning and comforting time I went out to dig the taters and low and behold, "now mind you I was 3 weeks late and should have suspected trouble but..... never would I have envisioned a whole mouse colony prospering so richly on my sweet potato's
somad.gif
. Needless to say I was surprised to find a mouse burrow in every potato mound and all of the potato's half eaten. I now wonder if they will always be there and I should move the garden. The mice have reeked havoc on my tomato's for the last 3 years and now my sweet taters! I need a scare mouse!
God Bless!

Karl, I had a constant meadow vole problem in my beds and deer mice in my storage sheds until a feral cat took up residence 4 or 5 years ago. She is a treasure. Even though well fed she hunts constantly. I'm generally not a fan of feral cats, but this one does a good job for me and earns her keep.

'Time of passing' - coincidental to both of the Princess's pregnancies there were multiple deaths in her family. After our daughter's birth, she said, "No more. My family can't afford any more losses." Pretty good excuse - I wanted at least 6 kids.

Did you dry the Kale and the Carrots? Or just the Carrots. What about your beans? Dried or canned. What kind?

I'm not up to planting blue berries. The sell by the bucket full at the Regional market. Did you freeze the Corn too?

How do you decided how much to plant, process and freeze?

See, the thing is I'd like to have some idea how big a garden to plant for two or three people for the year. I won't plant things we don't use of course. I'm looking to plant peas to freeze, but am always put off by when to harvest.

Beans I'd like to do but am put off by what kind and when to harvest to dry for Chili. I have grown yellow and green beans for stews.

I thought we were the only ones who did that.

People used to think we were crazy. Well we are but in a fun way.

If there is a dish rag or wash cloth I think should go I just toss it w/out telling her. I don't know why she saves her thread bare towels but she does.
