Coffee's ready...

Good morning, everyone! I'm on my second cup of coffee.
Curiosity finally got the better of me, and I decided to open up this thread.

I'm delaying getting dressed and going outside in the bitter cold... convinced my 11yr old son to go out
and open the door for the chickens. woo-hooo! buys me a little more time

Sissy, I saw that you vacationed in Wisconsin Dells as a kid... Me too!!! I grew up in Illinois and we vacationed there (a couple times I think)
My best memories are of the boat tour and the dog that jumped from one cliff over the water to another cliff.. that was amazing! Did you ever see that? It was part of their "entertainment" at WD.

Off to get my THIRD cup of joe now.

Good morning all you coffee and tea drinkers. I have just about finished off my coffee. I have about one more cup.

We have fog this morning. You don't see fog very often here in the valley. The sun is trying to come out.and it is 48 this morning.

I am still bringing my little Sultan in the house at night. He is getting used to going in and out. I let a couple of big girls go into his cage yesterday. he did not like that and chased them out. They were trying to get his treats. It was like he was protecting his area and food. I closed the cage back up. He started to crow. I think he was telling them to keep out. At 6:00am on the dot he starts to crow. If you were not awake, I don't think anyone could sleep when he starts. It is a shrill, teenage young man voice.

He seems content when I bring him in. He is used to the dogs and cat hanging around him, so they don't even bother him, inside or outside. I am tearing down the large pen area and rebuilding. I have the large shipping crate that I am making a new coop out of. The way I want to put it, will enable me to have runs on both sides and if needed, I can section those off. One of the areas will be for my Sultan and family (When i get the family). The Aviary that I built, is for my Frizzle flock. I like that shape. It will stay on the East end of the other pens. One section will be for my big girls and Willy Boy. They free range all day. The girls go to the nest box's to lay their eggs and they do hang out and nap in the pen. They are in and out all day. I don't think I will let the frizzle chickens free range.

I will not let the Sultans free range as they don't do well forging.

I did get in touch with chickenzoo, a member on BYC. She raises Sultans and i hope to get at least 3 pullets. Looks like she has nice stock. It is so hard waiting for new chicks.

Coffee is finished. Got to get the chores done. Have a great day all. Stay warm.

Yep he was at Great Lakes. We were there from 1966 to 1970. Then we headed to Georgia. I want to go home and find my picture of the jumping dog. I have an old post card with him on it. I also have film of it. the reel to reel type. Gosh i have got to get this out and have it transferred to video or CD or whatever they are doing now.

Mary, when were you at Great Lakes?

I was at Great Lakes from 76 to 83 . We called it the great mistake on the lake. I was there for the Blizzard of 78 , 87 inches of snow in 3 days and I still made it to work everyday , stupid me, my neighbors all called in and stayed home .

Wow, wasn't planning a trip down memory lane today, but am loving it! I'm going to call my mom and ask her to dig up some of those old Wisconsin Dells photos. That jumping dog sure made an impression on people.

I remember the Blizzard of '78. I lived about an hour south of Chicago, in Oswego. We had snow up to our rooftops, literally! I made the best snow cave that year, complete with interior shelves, I was quite proud of my elementary-school self!

We had an odd quick moving blizzard here in WMass last night, and it's freezing out there right now!
