Coffee's ready...

Looks like wall to wall sunshine today, temps in the 40's, a lot of melting going on. The sun is just pouring into my bay window and I am lovin it! It goes great with a cheese omlet and coffee!

I don't think I'll ever tire of eggs... Well, the girls' coop got a nice freshening up yesterday as I took out most of the litter that was in there and put in fresh straw and chips. They had the look of shock when they walked back in, like they were afraid to WALK on it!

Those girls keep me laughin! They are basking in the sun on their wall right now - I wonder if they sense the next storm coming. Yep, once again a storm has PA in it's crosshairs. Oh well, I don't care what the weather is this week, my eggs are due to hatch on Saturday so I'm savoring all this excitement. Not sure they are all developing but that's okay. Have a good week all!

Good morning from Arizona. It has rained for the past 2 days and nights. Some times it would stop and I would run outside to do some chores. Then, the sun would go behind the rain clouds, temp would drop 10- 20 degrees in just a few min. the wind started blowing and I had some rain coming from the side, for a time. It rained lots last night.

My Flock was real happy to get out of the pen this morning. The little Frizzle flock's pen was wet, wet, no tarp over that pen. They do have a large cage with a roof that I keep feed and a roost bar for them. I also have another cage, converted into a feeding station. It is covered.
They have the plastic playhouse converted coop, they live in. They stay dry and warm in there. I have just started this month letting the little chickens out of the pen, for a little free range time. They now mingle with the big chickens, but everybody stays with there own kind. Now Willy, is Head Rooster of all the chickens. He does indeed like the new girls. There is some what of a conflict, with Bat Man, the Frizzle Roo. Willy, is the boss. He is not mean just very convincing. Willy, takes very good care of his girls.

I baked a peach pie yesterday and it was still to hot to cut before I went to bed. I am going to have a slice with my coffee.

Have a great Sunday all.

Yesterday was quite pleasant an the snow was melting and a few places, where I had plowed, the ground was visible. I'd go out and check for mudholes but I'm sure the new snow has covered them up. We are doom, rather forecasted, to receive an additional eight inches throughout the day. Oh well, we only have another six weeks til spring.

Good Morning...This is gonna be a full pot of coffee morning..Hubby let my dogs out about 2am and Leah, my Yellow Lab met up with a skunk

Good morning chicken wranglers
Got the coop cleaned out sat mucked the barn and felt pleased with myself since rain was on the way. Rain and snow melt in my clay to make slush. My 4 wheel drive tracvtor could not make it up the hill to the compost pile so I started a new one for chicken poop. We awakened to snow this morning and if it does not melt by the time the temps drop on tuesday the ground will remain very soft because the snow will insulate it from the freezing cold . I like frozen better than gushy. Well at least we are not getting 8 inches like Mi. "I hope".Critter Crazy, I once had a great dane that chased everything until he met up with a skunk. I watched in horror as he went over to it ,expecting the skunk to be intimidated by his size. The skunk turned, with little considerastion and no back peddling promtly sprayed him. He just blinked and tried to nose the skunk into a run .
The skunk turned and sauntered away at a leasurely pace. To my utter amazment out of the woods ambled another skunk. To my complete and total disbelief the great dane ran to the skunk and tried the exact same tactic he had previously engaged in with the other skunk and received the same result. It was at this very moment that I "being a brave and stalwart indiviual "thought prudence the better part of valor and initiated my very rapid retreat towards my home wich was quite some distance. My plan at the time was to race toi the pen stand behind the gate slam it shut as the dane ran in race through the house shut the windows in order to save the inhabitants of the inner sanctum from the maloderous fate that they would therein suffer at the paws of the dog,"so to speak." I was engaged and commited but never the less unsucsessful in my initiative. The hole house smelled, the nieghbors came out wondering what the horrible skunk had done to their yard ,to wich " I had no clue".There I was scrubbing that huge animal with tomato juice, Him wanting to play, oblivious to the disaster that had all but gotten him removed from this world at the hands of the women that suffered the inoquious fumage he permiated of.The dog smelled for weeks and I threw my clothes away.

I do believe the Tomato juice is the only remedy. that works.

CC, my DD2's dog got sprayed, ran in the house into her bedroom and rubbed all over her bed. They went through lots of tomato juice and she had to throw away new bedding she had just made. It was awful!

It is raining and the wind is blowing again today. My chickens keep going in and out of cover. Poor Louie-Lu-Li is in a big Parrot cage. I brought him out of the shed that I put the cage in at night. I left the blanket over his cage on 3 sides and faced him out of the wind. All the other chickens came to visit him. Bat Man, (Frizzle Roo same age) wanted to fight with him through the cage. all the girls were trying to reach his food. He turned his back to them and started kicking the dirt out of his dust bath tub.

It was so funny! I think Louie was telling them something. I hate for him to have to live in a cage. Now, I can leave the door open all day and he will not come out. I have to watch the hens from getting in the cage with him. Fight, Fight!!
The rain has stopped all work on taking down the large pen. I can't even get the rocks. If i get them ahead of time I'll have to move them twice. Not! Ground is to wet to do any digging.

MY XDH went on a trip across the Valley today. He is picking up a electric Golf Cart found on CL. If it is what he wants, he will bring it home. The trip will take all day. He is going to make it a Solar powered little truck, for me to drive around the property. hauling stuff.
DS2 and I want to make more Adobe blocks. I want to some day, build an adobe Chicken Coop. The cart will enable me to drive the dirt around, and get it to the site I will build the coop on, and not have to pull my trusty Wagon.

Good morning from rainy Arizona......Sissy I didn't send the rain. It is still here. I know we need the rain, but, 3 days or more of overcast, gloomy, black sky, affects me! XDH says, I start to get crabby, when I can't go out side. I know this is true. I am addicted to Sun Shine! and have a strong need to be outside.

My DS2 was just here and said the same thing. He has started running a little each morning, and riding his bike around the property. He has cleared paths and you can get some miles just riding around. also you can get some good walking in. It is some what like a track with Golf course.l

Good morning, All. I'm sitting at the Subaru shop getting my car tuned and the brakes fixed and catching up on BYC. A big snow storm is headed our way tonight and will stay through Friday, they say. But, we hardly pay attention anymore, because they are wrong as often as not. It's also pretty warm, so there is bound to be some rain mixed in. As long as it is not ice - last year the ice brought down power for two weeks, along with trees and even buildings in some places.

Cleaned the coop yesterday getting ready for new inhabitants. I can finally move my laying flock into the new coop, and the old one will be the breeding pen for my Ameracaunas.

Guess I'll refill my coffee. This Subaru place has free coffee and wireless. Not a bad place to be forced to spend an hour or so.

Karl - that is a great skunk story!

Good morning chicken wranglers
winter is in revenge mode around here; rain and freeze, snow at night, freeze snow, freeze ,thaw freeze and so it goes. the mud is the worst part it makes me relieved to have the ground frozen. My cows and horses have one of the pastures massacured nothing but frozen manure everywhere. I suppose I will have to harrow the poop to help it disintigrate into the dirt. plenty of fertilizer.
