Coffee's ready...

Can I join in the conversation?

It's supposed to be 90* here in Syracuse, NY.
Plans are to go to Old McDonalds Farm in Sacketts Harbor. Grand kids are here w/ parents from Germany on their way for transfer to Alabama.
Grandkids are fine parents make you crazy. Wonder if we were ever this much trouble when we raised ours. The dad is ours and man I can't believe I raised this kid.

Anyhow I only have chickens and cats, no goats, sheep etc.

Made and had breakfast, coffees gone. Chicks let out at 6:30am. Early for me. Once I get up, I'm up no going back to bed.

Strung the garlic to dry. Gonna try other varieties this fall. Not sure what kind I got. Just bought some from a lady at the farmers market. Anyone got a special variety they think I should try. Will send postage in the fall if you want to sell some or can I hold it over til then? First time garlic person.

Got chickens of all ages and two broodies. Lord I wish I had another coop. Del roos need to go, Lord I wish I could process them myself. Refuse to give them away. Must be 7 or eight out there. Dels I got from speckledhen. 5 outta 6 are roos. Can you believe that?

Well ta, ta for now

I am going to have to head back to bed in a little bit. My Dh kept me up all night with his SNORING. OMG, It is sooooo Bad sometimes. I swear it was so loud last night that it woke me up almost every hour. Needless to say, I am dragging this morning. There may not be enough coffee in the world to help motivate me.

I am cleaning the grout lines in my kitchen this morning. That is my only serious goal for today. CLEAN and SEAL the grout lines. I know
it is not exciting, but it is a yearly job that must be done when you have sloppy children in the house.

My heart is begging for an opportunity to sew, but I may need a nap FIRST !

I am with you on this. I just can't bring myself to process my own animals. Fortunately, I have only had to deal with 2 extra roos so far. I sold one at our local monthly chicken swap - - - and the other I gave away to a lady who had just lost a large amount of her stock due to a natural disaster.

I could process a roo if it was a nasty one. I'd serve him for dinner with no problem. On the first bite, I would say, "Boy you should of been nicer - - I warned you - - - Ummmmm Meaness tastes Oh so good. "

So, Rancher, 5 out of 6 are roos. Wow, that is not good. I would not bother playing the lottery with that kinda of luck. I have heard that speckledhen has really good stock, so it shouldn't be too big of a problem finding new homes for those boys.

How are you liking the Delaware breed? I thought about getting some for a while, but ended up going with partridge rocks, speckled sussex, and welsummers. All three of these are pullets ranging in age from 2 - 5 months old.

Sissy I have a memory like an Elephant so I won't forget the offer. Unless I put something somewhere so I won't lose it, of course.

Math Ace. I like Dels very much they are nice layers and friendly. Look nicer than just plain white. They are on the "critical list" with the ALBC too. I could just give them away but being that these are not hatchery birds I refuse to give them away. No one on craigs will pay for them. Then again I'm into breeding nice birds. At least where Dels are concerned. I've got other breeds too.

My luck is so bad I couldn't win a bet in a one horse race. I do have to say it seems dels have a higher ratio of roos to hens, now that I think of it. There is a cross that yeilds a sex link with one sex being Del patterned. I have to investigate this to see if it's the roos.

Not sure I could process. Mainly it's disposing of the mess. There is news of an application for a slaughter house up state. Wonder if they'll do private folks birds too. If I had the money I might consider starting a business like that.

Morning People,
Coffees on, ham & swiss omelet cooking. Canoe has to be loaded. Going to be another warm and dry day. We could use some rain.
Everyone enjoy

Beautiful part of the country - I lived outside of Schenectady as a kid and my dad and mom lived in Mexico,NY before he retired - he went from being an electrical engineer all his life for GE to a nuclear engineer @ age 54 - is gorgeous up there - spent some time out in the lake fishin - I remember listening to his scanner and when we started to hear French he would say - " Okay time to turn around - we are far enough out!"

Here in the PNW it is a chilly 48 this morning - that is if you call 4:30 AM morning! I tend to be that early to bed - early to rise kinda girl -

just checked our forecast and I see nothing warmer than the 70's for the next 2 weeks - and no rain in sight - those of you who think it rains all the time in Seattle are sadly mistaken.......most summers we go months without a drop! We had a drizzly cold June tho - so this is a welcome change. We had the hot 90's last weekend - and I am happy to see mid-70's!

My chooks have started to lay - the SLW's have been first at 22 weeks - the eggs are pretty small right now and most times they are in the nest but yesterday there was one down in the run and it was larger so I might have someone else laying as well.....I have Wy's - Wellies - and a BA.

Found a home for my extra roo - NWChicks from here on the board will be driving down to pick him up tomorrow - she lost her blue Wy roo the other day and I have been looking for a home for my other BLRW roo - There has been some bullying going on so I am glad he has found a home with his own pullets!

Coffee is fantastic this morning - - Batdorf and Bronson's 'Bohemian Blend' - fresh roasted beans..........yummers!
