Coffee's ready...

hi, going to lock up my chickens and ducks for the evening.
some of you are getting no rain.... SE Minnesota seems to get it every 2 or 3 days and plenty of it. I will email some to those who want it.
thanks guys, for saving me. This forum is the only thing keeping me distracted from... bad stuff.
hope y'all have a good day thursday.

We've been getting a little rain here in central NC for the past week, mostly pop up thunderstorms that go into the evening. At least it's been a little cooler with daytime temps in the mid-80's. I'm so ready for fall. I've had enough of this miserable heat and humidity we've been getting for the past 2 months.

Good morning chicken wranglers
I really like seeing all the thread activity.Math ace I know my wife has to do all that school shopping but my D.D. Will have to take me, to get approval on all of her clothes. What an ovrbearing H's B I am.
R hicks how much do you mow? I 've got about 5 acres of mowing that the animals don't get to and I cant keep up with all the rain. I'm sitting, typing sipping, and sweating;and probably stinking too.Ya'll have a great day God Bless!

Not nearly five acres but enough, plus i use a bagger so that' fills up pretty quick. Good thing it's self propelled and then the yard that' I mow isn't level lots of ruts and stuff. I just like to keep it looking nice if not usable. The chicks have a big part. 50x100 I'd say maybe more. I'd like to let them out of the fenced in area but then they'd go into the woods and that would attract preds.

It's been hot here but not nearly as bad as some. Rained agian and more skeeters. I hate skeeters but can't spray for them cuz then the good guys get killed too.

Got three chicks with a broody two bantam friz crosses. Found the poor things huddled together outside the coop cuz they couldn't jump to get back in. Gotta check on them haven't been out there all day.

Never at a loss for projects here just good weather and time. And I don't even work outside the home. Don't know how ya'll do it.

Leach field is a drag and gotta call to see what can be done. Wouldn't care so much but it's right in the middle of the chciken yard and surrounded by fenceing to keep them out. It don't look pretty, I'll tell ya.

Well gotta go have brunch.

Take care and hope all goes well til we touch base again.

Little bit of drizzles this morning, just enough to get all the bugs to the surface for happy chickens! Now its overcast skies, cool trade winds blowing, peeping sunshine, low 80's. Still enjoying that morning coffee way into the afternoon.

Well cleaned one coop have to do other tomorrow.

Poor momma didn't' ahve enough sense to take babies inside. This is her first hatch and she's got all four. Amazing as they hatched over three days. Don't know why they all started at the same time. Plus she had a wooden egg in there to. I just didn't want to risk upseting the apple cart by removing it. Surprizingly the wooden egg didn't hatch. LOL.

Tied up a few more tomato plants and yanked out the brussel sprouts. I wonder if the chicken poop is to much nitrogen. Any ideas what I can add to offset it. What can I use to add some Potassium and Phosphorus?

Well GC's are here for the night and I gotta go to put them to bed.

see you in the morning God willing.

Rancher are you retired and working only at home? If so I envy you as that is my ambition.
Chicks best friend ,How is maui? I lived on Oahu for 4 years in the 80's. I worked at the sugar mill in Wailua. Last time I was in the Isle's there where no sugar mills and no cane. Times change.
Gotta go work .Ya'll have a good week end God Bless!

Here is a web site with a short table comparing the different manures.

http://www.plantea.com/manure.htm

So according to it Chicken manure would have a ratio of

11 - 8 - 5.

Potash, the last number is needed for root crops - - carrots, beets, potatoe, etc.

Phosphorus, the second number is needed for blossoms. I use bone meal when I want to increase phosphorus.

Nitrogen, the first number - - is needed for green growth. This element is washed away with water and must be replaced.

The other two elements may not need to be supplemented. Take a soil test and check your Phosphorus and Potash before supplementing your manure. I NEVER need to add anything to increase my potash count - - - it is OFF THE SCALE ! I am going out of my way in the cooler months to plant root crops just to use some of the potash already in the soil. If you need to increase your potash, you can do it with WOOD ASH - - - BUT it will also increase your PH.
