Ok, so I have the coffee started and it is going to be a Full Pot day.

You know I didn't start drinking coffee until after my children were born.
I was in my 30's before I developed the taste for coffee.

Morning People,
Coffee's on, nice and hot. I even have a treat I am willing to share, half & half. I don't see it much here. Looks like we are out of granola, so that will be something to make today.

Speaking of gardens, I have a open spot for either more beans or something else. I was thinking, if I wait a bit long, maybe put some peas in. The broccoli are finally forming heads, found 1 lone pumpkin, still no other squashes.

Looks like we had some rain last night. It looks and sounds wet (cars go by) out there. Temps are suppose to be in the 90+ again today, but breaking after this front moves through.

Next week project is another coop for Miss Bean, the Austalop Hen we have. She was a "free be" and the NHR don't want anything to do with her. We tried multiple times trying to introduce her, with the same results each time. So she'll get a new permanent home and a few friends to hang out with.

We have 2 compost spots that I alternate yearly between. I don't turn/mix them, just in the fall I grab the oldest one and put it in the garden. I also add manure from the farm behind us.

Mmmm - my coffee came out especially nice and dark this morning. You can keep the half-and-half - I take it black. More for you.
Quercus, my parents make home-made granola, and it is SO GOOD. I should start doing that. The smell it fills the house with while it bakes is reason enough to start.
Math Ace - have you ever planted lettuce or spinach? I wonder if it is cool enough here in the winter. I'm going to put off planting and just do one in September, once it starts cooling off at least a little.
Well, I actually have some "me-time" today - the BF's girls went home to their Mother's, and my own Mom is back in town. She's picking up my son from summer camp for me so I can go get my hair done and have lunch with a few friends. I'm giving my friend some of my pullet eggs as part of her birthday gift. It's a gift of love. I gave her all the Leghorn's ones since even as mini-eggs they are still the largest. The Barred Rock finally laid again after four days and it's even smaller now!! She'll get the hang of it soon, I hope.

Morning everyone. Didn't go back to bed.

Chicken yard seemed calmer as I gave away a bunch yesterday. Four GA boys plus a younger roo and two bantam friz cross chicks.

It's raining here so not a sunny day.

Broody hen back with the flock as eggs weren't any good. I started to candle them and they smelled bad, then I heard a pop and knew. Phew what a smell. I just grabbed the hen and took her to the coop and got pooped on in the process. I think things would have turned out better if I had left her in the coop. I'm not sure if she's a newby to brooding or not. I probably should put numbers on all the girls but so far have only numbered the Dels.

Dropped the car off to have the brakes check, Again! Not happy with the shop who I've been going to for about a year. Recommended by a friend. I actually thought that hell must be full of dishonest mechanics. After today I'll be looking for a new mechanic.

DD starts her new job today. My work into a "real" job. She's going through an agency.

Anyone in the south try to stay cool.

Chicks, the girl will lay more often and bigger eggs as she gets older,I'm guessing she is just old enough to start laying.And congradulations on your new challenge. Ipray that it is rewarding for you and the students both."and safe"!
Quercus I have compost but I have not tried it yet. I noticed the ducks on top of it eating "yuc"! but they left it in favor of the morning ration of feed.I really do not trust the chicken poop and am in favor of mule, horse and cow poop of wich I posess a abundant supply.
The Woman is canning again she and I snapped beans this morning and she is canning 7 quarts before work. Oh yeh no day off today she has billing to do and that is important since tomorrow is payday!

Good morning everyone! I haven't been on here as much as I'd like, been very busy. Amazing how spring blasted right by in a flash and now we're in summer in the bolstering heat. It has been so warm here but that is to be expected this time of year.

My chickens are feeling the heat as well, they definitely drink more water and I see them panting some now and again, but they have shade to get out of the sun and lots of water.

They are laying well, still getting their wonderful eggs.

Think I'll go make a pot of coffee and cook some eggs and bacon. Gonna warm some biscuits we made the other day and have them with butter and fresh honey, Mmmmm good!

My wife and I like french roast with lots of whole milk! We use honey to sweeten it.

Morning People,
Coffees on, maybe some eggs and toast for breakfast. Scrambled or fried?

Not much rain yesterday, maybe a 1/4" but the temps have dropped. Nice and cool this morning, hard to get out of bed.

chics in the sun: This recipe came from one of my daughters college roommates. On the day we were moving her out, her roommate had some made. Me being the "pig" I'm, really enjoyed it, so she gave me the recipe. If you or anyone else wants the recipe, let me know.

karl E lutz: I just about throw everything in the compost pile. From left overs from processing day, wood chips from the shop, garden waste, coop clean up, and fruit processing (even the peach pits). One thing the better half does, we'll bag the leaves in the fall and she'll give them through out the summer to the chickens in their run. They break them down real nice and this I add to the compost piles.

math ace: Our lettuce and swiss chard was about the same. Seed to bolt.

I might be able to process some broccoli and tomato sauce in the next few days.
As of yesterday, our broody hen has a chick, maybe more to come today.
