I am new at this. My broody has 6 eggs under her and 1 one week old chick, Last night here in Arkansas the temp went down to 25 (brrr) Sometime during the night the chick got out of the nest. This morning when I went out the hen was on the floor of the coop sitting on the chick and her 6 eggs were ice cold. They are due to start hatching Friday. Does anyone know will the eggs stll hatch after being so cold? I did get Momma and baby back on the nest. She is sitting on them again! Any help would be great

It depends how long they were cold, eggs can bounce back from a lot of things but they do have their limits! Only way to tell is to keep incubating them and candle to see how they are doing in a day or two. Out of curiosity, why do you have a chick with a broody who still has eggs yet to hatch? Because she will always favor the chick over the nest of eggs. As far as she's concerned, the other eggs are duds and it's her duty to protect the one chick that did hatch.

She had an egg burried in the nest that I am assuming was a week older than the rest she was taking eggs from the other hens. The chick just appeared one day. Like I said I am new to all this, Learning new things day by day. Thank you for your help.
