Cold-weather treat: Scrambled Scratch

If you live in the eastern U.S, your hens are experiencing one of the coldest weather patterns in many years, with temperatures below zero and wind chills well below zero. To keep your flock well-nourished during really cold periods, I give them this treat, called "scrambled scratch". The portions are adequate for a flock of about 6 birds. Mix 1/2 cup scratch with 3 to 4 eggs and microwave until the eggs are done (about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes). Break apart with a fork and give this to the flock for a warm, nutritious winter treat that is high in protein, carbohydrates, and nutrients. Be sure they also have access to a good layer feed and water.
