Cold weather vs. light

Does anyone know exactly why the chickens slow thier egg production down during the winter mos? Is it because there's less light or because of the lower temps?

It's the 14 hrs of daylight that triggers their ovulation.

AlienChick is correct. Cold temps don't help but it is more about the lack of daylight.
