Thank you for sharing the cold weather info!
I think my chickens are freezing. It was about -10 outside the other day so I kept the chickens in the coop because it was also windy. The girls did fine but "Rooster" is getting frost bite on his wattles! Every time he takes a drink from the fount his wattles get wet. The inside of the coop is the same temp as outside and at this point has no insulation. The hens had lain eggs very early that day and when I went in to check the birds a few eggs had busted open from freezing. When I touched a few of the other eggs they shattered on my touch.
Yep... so now I am gonna hump up and get er done. I will be insulating asap.
I am also freaking out about the ventilation. I have a vent and the airleaks around the door bring in outside air but I am sure it needs more esp after insulation.
Anyway I should have this work done within the next few days.
The outside temp is ok for now.
I am sure this belongs somewhere else on this forum but I really appreciate the photos of the winter hardy chickens on this post and felt compelled to share my cold bird story.
Thanks again BYC people!
