I do not provide any supplemental heat to any of my adult guineas. It can and does get down to -30°F here.

They are in a coop at night with the two windows cracked open to provide ventilation. I have not lost any adult guineas to cold temperatures.

That is much warmer than the -30°F that my adult guineas have been through without supplemental heat.

I only use a heat lamp to keep the water from freezing in the henhouse where all my chickens and guineas sleep. I use a 150 watt red heat bulb when the temp gets below freezing and it is hanging about a foot above the water can. It's not uncommon in bitter cold weather for the temp to be in the single digits inside the building. Adult birds can take a lot of cold and still be fine. Just be sure to super secure any heat lamps you do use. Guineas can get pretty rambunctious when confined inside.

How are your guineas doing? One had a hurt leg, one with a cracked beak, not quite a year old and all were over weight if I remember right?
I did get a warming plate last yr when we had the freak cold and storms. That week is the only time we used it. I have it prepared for emergency use this year, but little intent of using it.
Someone mentioned a huddle box, cool concept but not finding plans for other than for chicks, and in my coop I haven't figured out a way to create one over the roosts.
I am down to 3,so concerned abt too much space with less body heat to fill. I did bulk up the bedding & closed in the run so there are no drafts.
I shoved a large cardboard box on it's side up against the outer wall under the drop board with more bedding inside of it.
My reasoning is that if for any reason they want to conserve energy, the can indeed huddle in it and have the box walls as extra insulation.
Whether this works for you or not is less important that inspiring you to come up with a suitable solution for your birds to huddle in their space.

No heat here for the guineas in western new york. We have bouts of night time temps in the minus teens and daytime temps not getting out of the single digits. I have a water heater that works ok and when it gets real cold the guins have to peck the thin layer of ice that forms on it. All though they do go out and play in the snow

I would never say they like it.

Oh my goodness, is that NOW? Geeze- it was in the low 60s today..I am so not ready for that. Prepared, but not "ready". My gran would be duly impressed, though. He was certain our calendars were wrong; how could it be Christmas w/o snow?
I doubt the girls will be playing in snow. They all flew from spot to spot in the past, & Mama had a tendency to land somewhere then call until I carried her back.
She's the only veteran left, and a horrible influence on the 2 five month olds out there with her, teaching them to be prissy about just abt everything. As I said, in the 60s today and she led them back in at 2 pm!
I am super happy w/the water jug we have now though. It kicks on at 50° so there's never any ice, and it's enclosed, so no dirty water.

Nope that was exactly a year ago. Only 2 inches of snow today but now 33 and ice /rain, just lovely..

I'm going through your pics for coop expansion ideas. What are you using solar panels for? I have them for lights. Would be great to use on water tank.
