Coley's Quails 3-19-10

We went away for the weekend. Well, Saturday to Sunday.

First time leaving the birds alone and everyone was fine. There was plenty of food and water left in their cage!

Friday night I picked up 3 two week old Jumbo from a guy from Detroit. 2 hens & a roo.
They look great and I can really tell the size difference. The guy said his hatch date was 4-26.
They are living in my brooder in the garage.

The other birds have hit the 42 day mark. Come on EGGs!!!!

This morning one of my hens had blood on her head. She is my largest hen as of now. Gotta wait until I go home to see how she's doing. I feed them some leftover salad from dinner. They really like to nibble on the romaine hearts.

*edit- My hen isn't being pecked. She is flying up and hitting the bars. Silly girl

Two of the birds I had were getting beat up from the more dominate roo. Thursday night after work, I did the deed. It really wasn't that bad. Tonight we ate them. sauteed with butter, white wine, & parsley. Yummy!

Congrats on the new eggs! We hatched a batch at the same time. I have a hen started laying at 8 weeks from a prior hatch but none so far on the younger ones. Looking forward to it though as there should be about a dozen eggs a day once my girls get going

Last night, my jumbos reached 4 weeks. I ended up with 2 males & a females.... My mistake.

I swapped out the two young males for the male in my outside cage. I also put that other female in there too. I sat outside last night, watching the Bird TV. I wanted to make sure everyone was fine.

This morning, everything is fine.
