Collecting Heirloom Seeds

I've tried with two grocery store sweet potatoes, one was organic, and so far have gotten nothing. I'm so sad. How long did it take for your potatoes to sprout slips?

It took a over a week. Roots started grow from the bottom first. They were very tiny white fibers at first and just 1-3 of them on each sweet potato. Soon after though, we had roots growing very well and sprouts/slips followed. Change the water every 3-4 days and rinse the sweet potatoes under running water before placing in the new fresh water. That helped to remove any slime that formed. Once the roots row long and sprouts form, the slime was not an issue any more. Also, the sweet potatoes have not rotted. If they rot, it's not working.
