Collections at work for group gift - update post 23!

Let me get this right. You kicked in $30 for a wedding gift for one of them, meaning that person received a $90 gift.

For YOUR wedding gift, they all got together and bought you a pair of freakin' salad tongs?

SALAD TONGS????????

NOT diamond-encrusted, not golden. Not silver, not more than a small slab of wood.

Are they engraved?????

I don't know. Do you think they're playing a joke on you? Has the wedding passed?

What an awkward position. You sure can't ask, complain, or do anything besides be gracious, as you said.

What schmucks.

Schmucks!!! Great moniker for them! Salad tongs?

After thinking about this today, I decided to call the store where we're registered and ask about the order. The email alert only mentioned one item... maybe there were others? So I asked if there were other items in the order and, if so, would they be delayed, too?

The CS rep told me that there were a few other things included in the order, and that they are scheduled to be sent in a few days.

I feel sheepish for having jumped to an incorrect conclusion but very relieved that the situation isn't as it appeared. A $10 gift split 3 ways would definitely have been awkward, considering past gifts exchanged around the office.

We have the Sunshine Committee at our school. Each certified teacher has the option of donating $20 for whole year and the uncertified like teacher's aids, put in $10 each for the whole year. That buys the cakes and goodies and a little gift for each birthday during the year. We have a cake and goodies every other month for those two month's birthdays.

Good to know they weren't complete schmucks. I think about the $5-10 I give each Christmas and year end for the teacher, plus everything else during the school year. Ten bucks total for someone you see everyday and work with is mighty cheap.

Jenn wait!!!!! Those are special salad tongs!!!! They are for sneaking out in the middle of the night to steal eggs out from under a broody hen! They are feathered so she doesn't feel the intrusion! The other items are a "stealth" egg gathering basket and a beautiful feathered mask so if she does open her eyes she won't recognize you!
